Narrowly missed

Recommended by my colleague Tim Reeves; this is an amazing of déjà vu  in casual-space arrangement……absolutely tour de force!…..I am sure Rem will definately love it but architects will only destroy the harmonious of ’genuine’ local communities. ………this is an autonomic networking and society….no planner please;);)

Private Letter from Lewei

It is the coldest easter holiday ever in London. Usually, it always starts to snow firstly in Hendon area as where I live is located in northen of London and on the highest ‘hill’. (if you compare it to the flat central area.) It is perfect day for me to stay at home and cleaning all my mass. I have just found out an old letter sent by Lewei Li who is my friend went to Southeast University (Nanjing University of Technology) together for archi-study. He graduated from product design and I from oil painting. We have been producing illustration drawings and doing some interior designs for architectural firms during our studies at uni. At the time, it was an economy booming time. Clients paid lots of money to who can draw and design better. Well, I could say those who can copy and reinstall foreign new design trends. Everything are airbrush style paintings. Having been encouraged by some architects, we started our journey on archi-study by using our own hard earning money. We worked out together to look through all the best archi-schools in China and it ended up Southeast University in Nanjing. I only studied for 1 year but attended the courses which I prefered to pick up; however, he completed almost of 5 years’ courses within 2 years study. Back into my memory, I think that was a most surreal experience I have ever have in Uni. Not sure why, I think it was due to the fact that we were just looking what we really wanted to learn and not that a piece of paper about degree. Therefor we didn’t care about the scores which tutors will give us cos that is irrelevant. Selfmotivation was so high that we so enjoyed the study.

The following letter (I retyped it digitally)was sent after few months I went for London to continue my archi-advanture journey. He still addressed to my nickname. It is just interesting to look back what he wrote. He really knew my charater and said I am a slower who only tried to ‘bloom’ after nurturing for 3 hundred years; if that is the case, the ‘wine’ won’t be tasty after 2 hundred years. Wishing me doing things slowly little by little. Well, indeed I am the little turtle. It is so hard to have this kind of letter in nowaday internet age. Sometimes words written down onto paper by hands do have different effects.

Seadog,

ArtHOK-ResoNet launched

HOK Sport finally launched ArtHOK – ResoNet. ArtHOK is a show dedicated to its staff and will exhibit selected art works by staff. My collaboration project ResoNet is the first one to be held.

This weekend I can finally have a bit of rest. Week before was AA DRL’s 10 years anniversary and almost everyday went out for dinner meeting with Liu Yanchuan’s friends then this week I was chasing the time on organising the exhibition at my company. Unfortunately the exhibition preview is for staff only I couldn’t invite any friends or people who have helped the project. One of great benefit thing is I finally finished ResoNet video with the help of Zhu Tiantian (Sound design) and her boyfriend Simon (Film editing). Soon, I will launch it on youtube. Please check out later. (For video, please see ResoNet Video Presentation )

Exhibition contains four parts: 1.photographs on wall; 2. award and publication on display plinth; 3. a small sample of ResoNet. 4. ResoNet documentary video on TV display.

San Francisco in 2108-Hydro-Net

hydro-net_01.jpg

San Francisco is already one of the greenest cities in the US, but check out this wild new concept from IwamotoScott Architects to completely remake the city into an ecotopia by 2108.

The design, which is as visually stunning as it is thought-provoking, recently won the History Channel’s City of the Future competition. It’s a full-scale urban system that combines the most innovative green technologies with San Francisco’s unique microclimate and geologic conditions, to produce a compelling vision for the future. Hydro-Net, as the project is known, will bring the lovely city-by-the-bay (which many Inhabitants call home) squarely into the 22nd Century with algae-harvesting towers, geothermal energy ‘mushrooms’, and fog catchers which distill fresh water from San Francisco’s infamous fog.

Winners are a very powerful combination couple;) Lisa Iwamoto is trained as engineer but Craig Scott as architect; they both graduated from Harvard Uni. They have done some interesting material experiments. Check their website out.
