John Maeda
John Maeda is a graphic designer, visual artist, computer scientist, and one of the world’s foremost digital artists, who has helped shaped the interactive digital environment that we know today. To coincide with his first UK solo exhibition at Riflemaker, Maeda will be discussing his processes of re-evaluating and questioning the digital landscape he has helped to create.

Finally, Mark Tynan and I finished the proposal for FRED 07 . FRED – the annual art invasion of Cumbria is happening again this year. From the 28th September – 14th October, artists from around the globe will be creating new work in some of England’s most spectacular landscapes in what has become Europe’s largest annual festival of site-specific art. We have proposed an interactive installation work in the forest. (Selected proposals and artists will be decided at the end of April.) Last friday accidentally, I watched the US vs John Lennon on BBC2. Although I didn’t see the beginning bit of the programe, I believed I didn’t miss much of it. It is amazing the documentary film was only released last year December in UK; now we can see it on TV. I have been a big fan of Lennon since I was in high school. The fact is I felt it was more about the passion in his song gets the sympathetic response when I were young. I never really fully understand and know the content and context behind his songs although I get a bit of sense. (but not quite clear.) This film was so great that playing along each song while having a history background and other relevant interviews to understand the mind of the Master. The lacking of contemporary western history education is part of reason, so it is an one way to understand western culture. I highly recommended. I always love TV’s programs about each decades. Like pop songs, archi-trends etc. It is a great way to know contemporary western history rather than reading a boring historical book.
Looking back to history, you just will laugh and can’t believe how dull American government was during vietnam war period. 阅读全文Read_more

I have been living with Japanese flatmates since I came to London and live in Kennyland Court. However, AA school’s life was so over whelming and fullfilled my brain which makes me no room for getting a good chat and to know my flatmates although flatmates have changed all the time. I have learnt different culture stuff from each flatmate. Tonight, I have learnt another funny thing.
While I was checking e-mail; two Japanese flatmates were screaming and exciting about something. I were curious to ask them what was going on. Japan has a famous superstition which is you will get good luck and fortune coming if you find a Chabashira (A Tea Stalk) inside your tea mug. This means you will see the tea-leaf straight standing up. My flatmate Chiemi has only seen 4 times in her life and Tomoko only saw 5 times. (In order to take a clear photo, we have moved the tea-leaf to another clean water mug. Before that, it was straight standing up!)……..Have you seen your luck coming? Drink more green tea!!!!!;)
